Al-Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane has implored Africa to prioritise the appointment of African coaches across the board.
The three-time CAF Champions League winner insisted that if foreigners were being considered, then they need to have a more than convincing track record to be considered for a coaching gig. This was in response Burkina Faso coach Kamou Malo giving praise to Aliou Cisse, who has taken Senegal into the 2021 African Cup of Nations final on Sunday night.
"Africa must start employing Africans. I have been preaching that. Unless the person from another continent shows us the trophies he won in his career. Period! Take the example from music, rugby and cricket etc."
Malo had been quoted in a tweet as saying:
"I want to pay tribute to Aliou Cissé, on of the small handful of African managers. He is fighting a fight that I have an affinity for. African leaders must trust local coaches."
