Ghana AFCON Snub Wins January Player of the Month at Spanish Club Celta Vigo

Ghanaian centre-back, Joseph Aidoo, has won the award for the best player in the month of January at Spanish topflight side Celta Vigo.

The 26-year-old earned the most votes from fans of the club to beat his teammates to the top award.

The club announced the defender as the winner on their official website, with the Ghanaian footballer expressing delight for the recognition.

“I am very happy, it is very important to me, it gives me a lot of confidence. I am satisfied with my game and of course with the team," he said after receiving the award.

Joseph Aidoo put the disappointment of missing the Africa Cup of Nations behind him to star for the Sky Blues.

The former Genk player impressed as Celta beat Osasuna on the road and picked an important point against Sevilla. Celta only lost a game in the month, which was against Real Sociedad.

Celta Vigo defender Joseph Aidoo was not included in Ghana's squad for the Nations Cup in Cameroon.

The centre-back, who has been in form for the Celestial was omitted from the team after Milovan Rajevac release a 28-man team.

Aidoo came under pressure for his performance for the Black Stars in the World Cup qualifier against Ethiopia.

Alexander Djiku apologizes to Ghanaians after AFCON exit

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Alexander Djiku, one of Ghana's shining lights at the Africa Cup of Nations, has apologized to Ghanaians for the team's shambolic display at the tournament in Cameroon.

The Black Stars were booted out of the Nations Cup at the group stages following a 3-2 defeat to debutants Comoros Island on Tuesday, January 18, 2022.

The Strasbourg defender, who was on target in the game, took to Twitter to ask Ghanaians for forgiveness and adds the team will work hard to qualify for the World Cup.
