The football world has been plunged into mourning following the tragic death of a footballer in the Greek third tier.
Alexandros Lampis passed away after reportedly collapsing on the pitch and not getting help in time.
The Sun reports that the 21-year old Greek footballer was in action for his team - third-tier side Ilioupoli at the time of the tragic incident.
Further reports from Greece claim that with only five minutes on the clock the young player collapsed.
Quite tragically, there was no ambulance or first responders on deck to help his situation soon enough, and medics only arrived after 20 minutes.
Ilioupoli announced the passing of Lampis on their social media channels.
"Our Aleko, our friend, our brother, you left so unjustly. The statement, which was written in Greek read.
"The whole team, the whole city is mourning today.

The worrying trend of players collapsing
Worryingly, Lampis’s incident is not strange to the football world, particularly in recent times.
Only eight months ago, there was a higher profile incident involving Christian Eriksen, who collapsed while representing his country Denmark in the Euros.
Lucky for Eriksen, medics and doctors in the stadium acted fast with CPR, prompting the 29-year old’s heart to start beating again.
Eriksen went on to make a full recovery and was fitted with an ICD device to monitor his heart beat.
The Denmark international has since returned to professional football, signing a six-month deal with Brentford FC in the Premier League.

Another player, whose heart condition affected his football career was Sergio Aguero.
The talented Argentine was forced to retire from the beautiful game in December 2021 after experiencing chest pains while playing for Barcelona.
Aguero has since returned to South America and was recently pictured on a delightful fishing trip alongside several of his friends.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, now at Barcelona and Victor Lindelof have also had heart scares in the recent past.
