Denmark captain Christian Eriksen has joined Premier League club Brentford barely seven months after he suffered cardiac arrest.
The English club made the announcement on Monday that the 29-year-old will be making a return to football since he last featured at Euro 2020 while playing for Denmark.
He signed until the end of the season according to a club statement as confirmed by Brentford manager Thomas Frank.
The manager said as per ESPN:
"I am looking forward to working with Christian again. It has been a while since I last coached him, and a lot has happened since then.
“Christian was 16 at the time and has become one of the best midfield players to appear in the Premier League. He has also won trophies all over Europe and become the star of the Danish national team.
"We have taken an unbelievable opportunity to bring a World Class player to Brentford. He hasn't trained with a team for seven months but has done a lot of work on his own.
“He is fit but we will need to get him match fit and I am looking forward to seeing him work with the players and staff to get back towards his highest level."
Why Eriksen is not permitted to play in Italy
Eriksen was forced to leave Italian club Inter Milan as he was not permitted to compete in the Serie A after being fitted with a cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) device; a type of pacemaker that can prevent fatal cardiac arrests.

Meanwhile, Tottenham manager Antonio Conte expressed willingness to allow Christian Eriksen to train with the club as the Denmark international targets to feature in the 2022 World Cup.
In June 2021, Eriksen suffered cardiac arrest while playing for Denmark in the Euros in their opening group game against Finland. Describing his ordeal, Eriksen admitted recently that he ‘died for five minutes'.
Pogba out of action until February
Sports Brief earlier reported that Paul Pogba could be out of action until the end of February as the Manchester United midfielder suffered a setback in his recovery from a thigh injury.
The former Juventus midfielder had just returned to Manchester from Dubai where he has been recuperating after being out of action since November when he picked up the injury in United’s 2-2 draw UEFA Champions League game against Atalanta.
Manchester United German coach Ralf Ragnick has now revealed that it could be another four weeks before Pogba can resume full training and then another fortnight until he is match-fit.
