Former coach of the Super Eagles Gernot Rohr has stated that Nigeria had a disappointing outing at the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, Premium Times reports.
Augustine Eguavoen led the Nigerian team to the competition as they crashed out of the tournament in the Round of 16 following a 1-0 loss to Tunisia.
Rohr has been linked to become the coach of the Black Stars of Ghana ahead of the World Cup playoffs between both countries in March.
The Super Eagles had raised the hopes of Nigerians following their perfect run in the group stage of the tournament winning all their three games.
Ousted manager Rohr had even tipped the Ahmed Musa-captained side for the title, but they lost to the Carthage Eagles who later lost their quarter-final game to Burkina Faso.
Rohr was quoted as saying by Sportschau, a German sports magazine on broadcaster ARD.
“Nigeria was disappointing – losing to a weakened Tunisia in the Round of 16, it came as a surprise.”
Rohr linked with Ghana job
Meanwhile, reports from Ghana have it that former Super Eagles of Nigeria coach, Gernot Rohr, is being linked with the Black Stars' job ahead of the World Cup qualifying playoffs in March.
The Ghana Football Association is desperately searching for a new coach after confirming the sacking of Serbian trainer Milovan Rajevac.
Rajevac was fired after leading Ghana to its worst-ever Africa Cup of Nations performance, as the Black Stars failed to win a single game in Cameroon.
