  • Fans compared the crazy clash between Brazil and Ecuador to some of the AFCON encounters in the 2021 tournament
  • Fans debated how the World Cup qualifier would have been reported by the media if the match had taken place in Africa

The African Cup of Nations has had its fair share of refereeing drama but it doesn't compare to a recent World Cup qualifier between Brazil and Ecuador.

Four red cards were shown in the game, but two of those were overturned by VAR.

The two overturned cards were both shown to Liverpool and Brazil keeper Alisson, Goal.Com reported. Brazil and Ecuador played the majority of the game with 10 men, Sky Sports reported.

Fans though couldn't help but compare the encounter to AFCON games, wondering how the media would have reported it if it happened in Africa.

Kamogelo Aubrey Moroka:

"When the referee ended the match at 85 minutes in a Afcon match i thought Africa had the craziest officials but South America is on another level."

@Shogun_musashi:

"People heavily criticize AFCON but did they watch Ecuador Vs. Brazil That wasn’t football"

@mwema20:

"All those who said Afcon is full of reds, hope you are watching Ecuador vs Brazil. Some karate soccer here."

Matthew Maliu:

"This is AFCON played in Brazil I can't believe this.... curroption full everyway but we ain't talking about cuz they're not in AFRICA"

Jeffery Diamond Bondo:

"If it was a AFCON match everyone was gonna be saying rubbish"

Silas Simwanza:

"If this was Africa this would have been negative publicity but on other continents they make it look fun and all, like what happened was normal."

Crazy Scenes as Liverpool Keeper Alisson Becker Shown Red Card Twice for Dangerous Tackles

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker was shown two red cards during an entertaining clash between Brazil and Ecuador on Thursday, January 27 during a World Cup qualifier, Sports Brief earlier reported.

But despite being handed his marching orders two times, the Brazilian somehow managed to stay on the pitch as VAR overturned both decisions. Alisson is one of the most admired goalkeepers in world football, and his performances have helped Liverpool clinch the Champions League and Premier League in 2019 and 2020 respectively.

But with all his prowess in front of goal, Alisson was not having the best of matches in an ill-tempered game against Ecuador, and this was summed up by his two reprieves, as reported by BBC.
