FootballDStv Compact Cup: Warriors Defeats Coastal United in Final as Ruzaigh Gamildien Impresses With Brace
- Moroka Swallows forward Ruzaigh Gamildien struck twice wonderfully as the Warriors defeated Coastal United 2-1 in the inaugural DStv Compact Cup's final
- The impressive Gamildien dragged the Warriors back into a very entertaining game as Ashley du Preez put United into an early lead
- Fans were very much absorbed in the contest on social media, either praising the competition or giving it credit
The Warriors are the inaugural DStv Compact Cup champions after defeating Coastal United 2-1 in a gripping final at Soccer City.
Ashley du Preez hit the target early to put Coastal United into a shock early lead, before two classy goals from man-of-the-match Ruzaigh Gamildien got the Warriors going towards the title.
Divisive as the competition might be, the final was a really entertaining affair as both teams went at one another without inhibition.
The gimmicky competition is of a similar vein to the Carling Black Label Cup involving Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, in that fans get to vote for what they want. The twist, however, is that they get to select players they want to see from all 16 clubs in DSTV Premiership included into four select squads, like the NBA All-Star Game.
Fans then select 26 players from each group, who will then be included in a team that will represent its respective region in a semifinal-to-final format, with a third/fourth place playoff contested by the losers of the semifinal matches.

"DSTV Compact Cup is a serious mumble jumble. A soccer team is a scared group that must never be stripped down irrespective of any commerce. I don't think what is happening in RSA could happen at La Liga or EPL!"
