Super Eagles midfielder, Alex Iwobi, has tendered an apology to Nigerians after the Super Eagles were knocked out of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

The three-time African Champions were bundled out of the competition as they lost 1-0 to North African giants Tunisia in the Round of 16.

Alex Iwobi was sent off just seven minutes after coming on as a substitute for Kelechi Iheanacho, but received his marching orders after his yellow card for a challenge on Youssef Msakni was upgraded to red after a VAR check reports Dorset ECHO.

The Punch reports Youssef Msakni’s shot from outside the 18-yard box was enough to propel Tunisia into the Quarter-finals where they will next meet Burkina Faso.

Msakni’s effort was poorly parried into the net by Nigeria’s goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye to give the Carthage Eagles a spot in the next round.

The Super Eagles were tagged as favourites heading into the fixture after a convincing group phase which saw the Augustine Eguavoen led team finish with 9 points after 3 group games.

Earlier Sportsbrief reported President Muhammadu Buhari has urged Nigerians to encourage the Super Eagles to bounce back, after the team crashed out of the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

A 46th-minute strike by Youssef Msakni was enough for the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia to knock the tournament-favourites out of the biennial tournament.
