Amazulu's new owner Sandile Zungu is being considered for the ANC's Provincial Chairperson post in KwaZulu-Natal.

Zungu is one of South Africa's most successful businessmen and is the Chairman of Zungu Investment Company. Zungu Investment Company owns shares in numerous other businesses that deal with minerals and energy. He is also the President of the Black Business Council.

According to The Witness, Zungu may challenge Sihle Zikalala and Nomusa Dube-Ncube for the post. Sihle Zikalala is the current Premier of the province, while Nomusa Dube-Ncube is the treasury MEC.

According to The Witness report, some branches in KZN approached Zungu to contest the position.

Zungu became a household name last year when he bought Amazulu FC.

As reported by the Daily Maverick, Zungu spoke of his ambitions for the club when he took over. He said that he aims to make them a powerhouse in South African soccer once again before the club's 100th anniversary in 2032. Thus far Usuthu has shown a more spirited side and has already gained qualification for the CAF Champions League.

When news broke of Zungu being considered for the Provincial Chairperson post, social media reacted with users divided on the matter. One person was fearful that another businessman in the ANC would just be another Cyril Ramaphosa situation.
