Liverpool made it three wins out of three in seven days after beating Crystal Palace 3-1 to put pressure back on Manchester City at the top of the Premier League.

The Reds have now closed the gap at the top of the table to nine points with one game in hand.

Jurgen Klopp's men showed they meant serious business taking the lead just after just eight minutes thanks to a powerful header from Virgil Van Dijk from a corner.

Despite not having Mo Salah and Sadio Mane in their matchday squad due to their involvement at AFCON, Liverpool doubled their lead thanks to a well-taken goal from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the 32nd minute.

The Englishman scored his second goal in a week after a superb delivery again from Robertson. Liverpool had more chances to increase their tally but the first half ended 2-0.

However, Crystal Palace came back fighting in the second half and were rewarded with a goal in the 55th minute through Odsonne Edouard.

Mateta had broken clean through to go one-on-one with Alisson and there was little the keeper could do as Edouard was there to tap home from close range.

But as Palace pressed forward to get an equalizer, Liverpool who did not really threaten in the second half won themselves a penalty with just two minutes left to be played.

After a long VAR check, the referee gave the penalty after Diogo Jota’s collision with the Palace goalkeeper.

Fabinho tucked it away from the spot as Liverpool claim vital three points as the game ended 3-1.

The victory takes Liverpool up to 48 points, nine points behind table-toppers Man City who have 57 points.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Pep Guardiola has insisted the Premier League title race is not over despite Man City enjoying a significant lead at the top of the standings.

Man City had a golden chance to extend the lead to 14 points but blew that opportunity after they settled for a frustrating 1-1 draw with Southampton on Saturday, January 22.

The draw came just days after Guardiola's charges stunned Chelsea 1-0 to secure their 12th straight Premier League win - a result that had many suggest the title race is done and dusted.

However, Pep has come out to maintain the race is still wide open with Liverpool, who have one game in hand out to reduce the gap to just six points.
