- Fans have taken to social media to make fun of South Africa's curse against Ghana and their players
South Africans will never forget the day that they failed to qualify for AFCON 2021 thanks to a dubious penalty decision in the game against Ghana, but it seems as if Ghana won't be allowed to forget that day either.
After the game, South Africans took to social media, vowing that Ghana would suffer as a result of the controversy and that the South African curse would follow them wherever they went.
Ghana were dumped out of AFCON in the group stages, which got many people talking once again. It now seems as if Ghana's players are also suffering as a result of the 'curse'.
Thomas Partey received his marching orders during the Carabao Cup clash against Liverpool, receiving two yellow cards less than 15 minutes after coming on as a sub, GiveMeSport reported. Partey had only arrived back in England earlier that day after representing Ghana at AFCON.
Liverpool went on to win the game 2-1 and book a place in the final against Chelsea, Sport24 confirmed.
Social media can't get enough of the story, with many believing that Ghana needs to ask for forgiveness from South Africa before things get worse.
@SamsonBaloyi16:
"Ghana must apologise to South Africa, otherwise the curse will continue. Thomas Partey has received a red card in the UK after returning from elimination in the AFCON. Ghana will also be eliminated in the World Cup in March. They must just ask for forgiveness from South Africa."
@buddyz_koe:
"Thomas Partey will blame the whole South Africa for that... #ARSLIV"

FootballCarabao Cup: Diogo Jota scores brace as Liverpool silences Arsenal to reach the final
As reported earlier by Sports Brief, Liverpool has booked a place in the final of this season's Carabao Cup after seeing off Arsenal in an epic two-legged semi-final. They will now face Chelsea in the final.
The Reds sailed through on a 2-0 goal aggregate after silencing the Gunners at the Emirates in the second leg of the fixture on Thursday night, January 20 to book a date with the Blues as Wembley in February.
Despite missing the services of key players including Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, and Naby Keita who are on international assignment, Jurgen Klopp's men did enough to down the hosts to qualify.
