Alexander Djiku, one of Ghana's shining lights at the Africa Cup of Nations, has apologized to Ghanaians for the team's shambolic display at the tournament in Cameroon.
The Black Stars were booted out of the Nations Cup at the group stages following a 3-2 defeat to debutants Comoros Island on Tuesday, January 18, 2022.
The Strasbourg defender, who was on target in the game, took to Twitter to ask Ghanaians for forgiveness and adds the team will work hard to qualify for the World Cup.
"Words will certainly not be enough to erase the frustration. We are disappointed and also sorry for our Ghanaian people to have failed at this stage of the competition. We must stay focused because qualifying for the World Cup must motivate us more than anything," wrote the center-back.
The France-born Ghanaian footballer was one of Ghana's top performer at the competition, and in the game against Comoros played his heart out but the Black Stars could not find a way pass their opponents.
The 27-year-old has promised the team will make amends during the World Cup qualifiers play-offs in March, with Ghana hoping to make a return to the global fiesta.
The Black Stars had the worst AFCON campaign in their history after picking only a point in three matches in Cameroon.
