Nigeria’s interim manager Ausine Eguavoen has disclosed that his Super Eagles players are fully focused on the Africa Cup of Nations taking place in Cameroon and are not allowing any distractions in the team.
The Super Eagles have been superb in their opening two matches at Africa’s biggest football showpiece so far defeating the Pharaohs of Egypt 1-0 in their opening group game and then followed up with a convincing 3-1 victory against Sudan to book a place in the Round of 16.
Fans have been delighted with the display of the team so far in the tournament which has seen some call for the retention of Austine Eguavoen even after the AFCON in Cameroon.
Meanwhile, all the talks around the team aren’t causing any sort of distraction in the camp of the Super Eagles because according to The Guardian, Interim manager Austine Eguavown says the players are fully focused on the tournament.
The Nigerian gaffer also revealed he is yet to meet with the newly announced permanent manager of the Super Eagles at the ongoing tournament in Cameroon.
“If the Portuguese is present in the city, I don’t know yet because nobody has told me. But that notwithstanding, the Eagles are fully focused on the AFCON. I have talked to the players to take every game as the final of the AFCON.
“I am excited that the players are intelligent and smart to understand what I want them to do on the pitch… this makes my work easy. My target is to win the AFCON, but every game must be approached seriously by the team to achieve the feat,”
