FootballMan City vs Chelsea: De Bruyne Wonder Strike Helps Citizens Sink Blues to Go 13 Points Clear
- City won their 12th league game in a row thanks to De Bruyne’s classy strike
- The Belgian scored with 20 minutes to go as the Citizens edged Chelsea 1-0
- Chelsea are now 13 points behind City in what was a huge blow to their title ambitions this season
Kevin De Bruyne produced a match-winning moment with a wonder strike as Manchester City beat Chelsea 1-0 to move 13 points clear at the top of the table.
The Belgian, who has been world-class since his return from injury in December, curled in a perfect shot from outside the box with 20 minutes to go in a finely poised game.
In a game that could have gone either way as it involved two extremely disciplined sides as far as defending was concerned.
As expected, the two sides cancelled each other out for most of the game, and it almost seemed like the contest would be determined by one moment, and it was.
Despite having loads of possession, City struggled to exert themselves onto a very disciplined Chelsea side.
Chelsea had their chances as well, and Tuchel will perhaps feel that the game would have had a much more positive outcome had Romelu Lukaku taken his chance when he was clean through.
City also missed a great chance in the first half as Jack Grealish’s shot when he only had the keeper to beat was kept out by Spaniard Kepa Arizzabalaga.
With Chelsea holding out the Champions, up stepped De Bruyne in the 70th minute.
The Belgian got on the wrong side of N’golo Kante and with three players closing him down, somehow managed to curl a beauty that found its way to the bottom corner.
From the overall balance of play, the goal was no more than City deserved as they showed a bit more urgency and dominance on Saturday, January 15.
