The keenly-anticipated clash between Senegal and Guinea was a forgettable one as the match ended in a disappointing 0-0 draw.
The Group B match played out at the Kouekong Stadium in Bafoussam, with Liverpool teammates Sadio Mane and Naby Keita locking horns for the Lions of Teranga and the National Elephants respectively.
Senegal came into the match on the back of a hard-fought 1-0 win over Zimbabwe courtesy of Mane penalty. Guinea edged past Malawi with the same scoreline, when Issiaga Sylla.
This contest was symptomatic of what has characterised a low-scoring tournament, with many opportunities created but with very few shots on target. For good measure, both teams had a combined 15 attempts at goal, but with only three troubling the goalkeepers.
If number-one ranked Senegal wanted to send a warning to the rest of the competition about their status as favourites to finally win an AFCON tournament, then they missed it with their last two displays.
Zimbabwe and Malawi will be pleased with the result, as it leaves the door open for both teams if they hope to advance to the next round of the competition.
Senegal will look to ensure last 16 progression against Malawi, while Guinea intends to the same again Zimbabwe. The simultaneous kickoffs will take place next Tuesday, 18 January.

Gabon comes into the match after defeating Comoros 1-0, while Ghana is looking to avoid elimination after being defeated by Morocco 1-0.
