Manchester United seem to have torpedoed their own plans to have Anthony Martial exit the club in the January transfer window as Sevilla cooled off their interest in the striker.
Latest reports indicate Sevilla have been repelled by United’s astronomical demands for the French striker, who is not being considered for games by interim manager Ralf Rangnick.
Martial’s agent recently confirmed that the striker was looking for a new challenge elsewhere, prompting several clubs, including Sevilla, to pursue a potential deal.
Being only five points behind league leaders Real Madrid, Sevilla are looking to bolster their attack in January to give them a better chance of competing perhaps for an unlikely title in the La Liga.
According to Marca, Sevilla offered a loan deal to Manchester United for Martial, something the Old Trafford chiefs were to willing to engage.
Sevilla were willing to pay half of his wages, but United reportedly want the club that takes up Martial on loan to pay his wages in full.
The Spanish club’s offer came in December and it is believed United rejected the initial offer as a way of negotiating to their advantage.
However, it did not work out that way as Sevilla seem to be keen on other targets.
Spanish newspaper AS further reports that Julen Lopetegui’s side is now looking at Bologna forward Riccardo Orsolini
Another player in Sevilla’s radar is Tottenham’s Steven Bergwijn, but he is more likely to join Dutch giants Ajax.
Newcastle is also another club that was initially interested in Martial but the Magpies, under new ownership, have shifted their focus to Burnley’s Chris Wood.
