Ghana defender Jonathan Mensah admits lessons have been learnt from Algeria defeat

Black Stars center-back, Jonathan Mensah has taken some off the blame for Ghana's dismal display against Algeria in the pre-AFCON friendly on Wednesday.

Ghana lost 3-0 to the African champions, with the Columbus Crew captain's own goal sandwiched by strikes from Adam Ounas and Islam Slimani's strikes.

And in an interview with TV3, the 31-year-old admitted a lot has been learnt from the defeat and Ghana will be ready for AFCON 2021.

“We played against a good side and it was a good test for us. Individually, it was good for me because I didn’t do well so I know where I should do well next time,” he said..
“The team looks good. Even though we lost the game, it was a good lesson for us. Playing against the defending champions and they will always give you a good test.
“So, we know what to do and, of course, the competition starts for us on the 10th of this month and we’re going to do our best to win the first game.”

Jonathan Mensah is one of the most experienced players in the Black Stars team, having been at three Nations Cup and two FIFA World Cups. He has 67 caps for the Black Stars.

The Black Stars of Ghana will open their AFCON campaign with a game against Morocco, a side that plays similarly to Algeria.

Ghana will later play Gabon and Comoros Island in Group C.

Jonathan Mensah ready for AFCON 2021

Earlier, SportsBrief.com reported that, US-based Ghanaian center back, Jonathan Mensah has disclosed his eagerness to represent Ghana at the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Mensah is one of the players to join the team in their Qatar camp this week, after arriving on Tuesday.

In a photo posted on Twitter, the Columbus Crew captain stated he is honoured to play for the Black Stars and the team is working hard ahead of the tournament.
