The Super Eagles have been grouped alongside record holders of the competition Egypt long with Sudan and Guinea-Bissau in Group D.
Nigeria arrived Cameroonian city of Garoua on Wednesday January 5 and have been intensifying preparations ahead of their opening game against the Pharaohs of Egypt on Tuesday January 11.
The Super Eagles will be missing key players including Napoli Superstar Victor Osimhen, Watford’s Emmanuel Dennis, Leon Balogun of Rangers and Al Shabbab’s Odion Ighalo after all were left out of the 28-man squad to the AFCON due to injuries and club versus country row.
Speaking after Nigeria’s training session in host country Cameroon, Complete Sports reports Eguavoen now admits he is under pressure to win the country’s 4th AFCON title.
“Pressure yes, I am obviously. It’s just not me, even with Jose Mourinho, Antonio Conte, Pep Guardiola or Gernot Rohr you can’t say you won’t be under pressure.
“It’s like Manchester City, one of the best teams in the World at the moment, playing the best brand of football at the moment but with Guardiola, one coach that I adore, he has been unable to win the UEFA Champions League with City. You cannot say he is not under pressure to win it.
“People expect Nigeria to win the AFCON and that puts me under some pressure but I will take it and digest it. We take each game as it comes. All the teams here have come to prove a point.”
