"I was surprised when Ghana beat Egypt 6-1 at the 2014 world cup qualifies though I knew we will win but not that huge margin," Nyantakyi told Onua TV.

On a wet afternoon in Kumasi, Asamoah Gyan, who was captain of the team bagged a brace before goals from Majeed Waris, Sulley Muntari, Christian Atsu and an own goal from Wael Goma sealed victory for Ghana. The Egyptian had a consolation through Mohammed Aboutrika.

The Black Stars went on to qualify for the World Cup in Brazil, their third on a row during the Nyantakyi-led administration.

However, it turned out to be Ghana's worst world cup appearance, finishing bottom of their group after defeats to the United States and Portugal and a draw against eventual champions Germany.

There was also turmoil in camp and government had to airlift $4 million because of threats the players wont honour the final group game if their appearance fees are not paid.
