Newly Elected Egyptian Football Association President Gamal Allam has set winning the 33rd edition of the African Cup of Nations as the target for the Egyptian national team.
The Pharaohs who have been in intense preparations ahead of Africa’s biggest football showpiece are scheduled to travel to the host country Cameroon this Saturday, January 8 according to Complete Sports ahead of their opening fixture against the Super Eagles of Nigeria on Tuesday, January 11.
Egypt will be banking on key forward Mohammed Salah who has been in scintillating form for his Clubside Liverpool to bring home the title as they expect the former Chelsea man to replicate his form for the Pharaohs when the competition starts this January.
Egypt who are one of the strong contenders for this year’s competition boasting has been placed in Group D along with Nigeria, Sudan, and Guinea-Bissau.
According to Kingfut, newly elected FA President Gamal Allam has now placed a target of winning the AFCON for the Pharaohs insisting they are now in Cameroon just for show.
“Egypt won’t go to Cameroon just for show, our goal is to win the Africa Cup of Nations, and this is what we will play for,” Allam told Sada El-Balad TV.
“The Football Association will give its full support to the national team to achieve the desired goal, which is to win the African Cup of Nations,”
Egypt remain the record holders of the AFCON after winning Africa’s biggest football tournament on seven occasions.
