Former Super Falcons Star Cries Out As N10m Reward for Class of ’99 Allegedly Disappears

• Super Falcons of Nigeria reached the quarter-final of the FIFA Women’s World Cup in USA 99 before losing to Brazil

A former Super Falcons star Patience Avre who is based in the United States has alleged that N10 million reward offered to the team by the Chairman of Air Peace, Allen Onyeama has been diverted into private pocket by some of her teammates, Correct Score reports.

In 2021, the NFF honoured the 1999 set of the Super Falcons for reaching the quarter-final of the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Coach Ismaila Mabo led the team that almost reached the semis, before they were defeated by Brazil at the tournament held in USA ’99.

After the Nigerian football house promised each player $1000, Allen Onyeama, the chairman of Air Peace then announced a donation of N10million.

Avre who could not make it to the award ceremony in Lagos has now lamented that the largesse have been pocketed by some of her teammates.

She said via Guardian:

“I made the Super Falcons squad on merit, and I did not sleep with any coach before I was selected for a major tournament.

“I played a major role at USA ’99 FIFA World Cup, and anybody holding on to my share of the N10 million largesse must be ready to face embarrassment. I will go any length to expose them. They won’t like what they will see.”
