There was pandemonium in Uyo during the Nigeria Professional Football League game between Dakkada FC and Remo Stars in Match-Day 4 of the new season.

Sports Flames are reporting that some fans took laws into their own hands as they attacked officials of the visiting team during half-time and went further to assault referees after the match ended 1-1.

It was gathered that Oriyomi Lawal had put the hosts ahead as early as the 12th minute, but Remo Stars restored parity moments before the end of the first half courtesy a Samuel Anakwe strike.

How it all started

While both teams headed into the dressing room, no fewer than 10 irate fans were reported to have made their way to meet with the visitors to hand them stern warning.

At full-time, the match officials were not spared as a clip shows the moment an assistant referee was slapped in the full glare of some Dakkada FC officials.

It was a bizarre scene as the irate club official made way to the touchline after the final blast of the whistle before landing hot slap on the match official.

Remo Stars' general manager reacts

The general manager of Remo Stars, Ekene Adams said via BSN Sports:

“It’s sad that some fans perceived to be ‘Stadium Thugs’ are been used by some unscrupulous club administrators to cause mayhem in our league.
”I mean, how would security agents turn a blind eye by conniving with the home team, by allowing thugs to walk towards the dressing rooms of the referees and away team to threaten them.
“We were outside ours when they came shouting on top of their voices that the referees must give them the 3points else they won’t leave Uyo alive.
“They then walked towards us and in the process, they slapped and punched I and Onikute, our goalkeeper coach and kit manager who tried to calm things, were not spared as they were slapped and manhandled. Glory be to God that we left the stadium with lives and the point but it was not a good experience.”

It was the very first time the 'Video Assistant Referee' was consulted in major decision in the Nigerian topflight.

After the first half had ended goalless, both sides began the second half with more intent as they pressed for the goal.
