Former Kaizer Chiefs Player Junior Khanye Hails Signing of Attacker Surprise Ralani

Mamelodi Sundowns' move to attract the signature of experienced attacker Bradley "Surprise" Ralani has not escaped the praise of former Kaizer Chiefs player turned football analyst Junior Khanye.

Khanye was quick to point out that the move will benefit both the player and the Pretoria giants after the 34-year-old was unveiled as the Brazilians' latest acquisition at the start of the January transfer window.

Briefly News understands Ralani, who's settled for a new home in Pretoria from Cape Town City, put pen to paper on an 18-month deal.

"Ralani is a good signing. Age is just a number, and there are [a few examples of European players, Zlatan Ibrahimovic among them, who have demonstrated that]. Ralani is a developed player. He went overseas early, and he's able to kick with both feet," Khanye told KickOff.

"However, he should double up his efforts because talent alone will not suffice at Sundowns. There's much that he can still offer: speed, being technically balanced, and can play off the ball," Khanye added, who again honed in on the midfielder's age, affirming that it should not be seen as a stumbling block.

"He's just 34. Who says 34-year-olds can't play? It is a good mature age. Thiago Silva [Chelsea centre back] is 36 and widely considered as one of the best defenders in the Premier League."

The South African reported that the signing of Ralani could spell doom for Gastón Sirino and his lack of game time at the Loftus Versfeld outfit. According to former Downs midfielder Brent Carelse, Sirino's relatively dry spell this term – having featured in only 11 matches in all competitions so far – will only be exacerbated.

Elsewhere, Sports Brief recently reported that Sundowns midfielder and Bafana Bafana star Lebohang Maboe has provided an update on his struggles during his road to recovery from a knee injury.

Maboe was sidelined for six to nine months with the injury which he suffered in August 2021 but looks forward to once again being part of the title-winning Chloorkop outfit.

The midfielder opened up recently on the challenges he faced while recovering from the injury, Goal.com reported. In a statement released on the Sundowns website, Maboe said that it wasn't easy having to deal with a long term injury.
