FootballRonaldinho Risks Wrath of Barcelona After Comments on Messi's Transfer to PSG
- Ronaldinho said it was a ‘pleasant surprise that Messi joined Paris Saint Germain from Barcelona
- The comments have reportedly not gone down well with Barcelona, who gave Ronaldinho a 10-year ambassadorial role in 2017
- Messi, like Ronaldinho, will go down in history as having played for both Barcelona and PSG
Barcelona have reportedly been left disappointed by Ronaldinho following an interview done by the 41-year old recently.
Ronaldinho, who is a paid ambassador of Barcelona, a club he played for between 2003 and 2008, recently made some controversial comments regarding Lionel Messi’s transfer to PSG.
Messi joined PSG in the summer of 2021, ending his long association with Barcelona, who had to let their all-time goalscorer go because of a salary cap.
Ronaldinho reportedly said as quoted by Mirror:
'I did not expect it (the transfer) to happen, I was counting on Messi going to finish his career at Barcelona.
'It was a surprise, but a pleasant surprise for me.'
Like Messi, Ronaldinho also played for PSG between 2001 and 2003 before eventually joining Barcelona.
But because he is a paid ambassador of the Blaugrana, the Spanish giants did not appreciate his recent comments.
In October 2021, Ronaldinho and Messi met and embraced during the Champions League clash between PSG and Leipzig in what was a heart-warming moment.
During their playing days at Barcelona, the pair were great friends, and Ronaldinho was one of Messi’s mentors as the Argentine was coming of age at the club.
At Barcelona, Ronaldinho helped the club clinch the Champions League in 2006, and he also won two La Liga titles in his five-year spell with the club.
At the time of meeting Messi in PSG in October, Ronaldinho said:
"It is a great joy to have played for these two clubs and now to see my friend wearing this shirt, there are many moments of joy for Leo Messi.”
