Speaking to TimesLIVE, Maimane's sister Eleanor said that the former Bafana star was responding well to treatments and has since communicated with family.

“We have been talking to him, he called his daughter and they had a video chat. The nurses are very happy with the way he is responding to the treatment.
“All in all, things are going as well as can be expected and he will make a full recovery, which is obviously a big relief to the family. We are very thankful for the medical care he is receiving,” she told TimesLIVE.

Eleanor also confirmed that Maimane may need minor surgery on his hand as well because the bullet hit the bone.
