FootballAngry Chelsea Manager Thomas Tuchel Reacts to Sadio Mane’s Apparent Elbow on Cesar Azpiicueta
- Chelsea vs Liverpool has continued to headline the talking points, especially in the opening seconds that saw Sadio Mane receive a yellow card
- The Liverpool forward apparently elbowed Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta and many believed he should have been sent off
- Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has lamented the situation emphasising that the match officials failed to check the incident
Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has suggested that Sadio mane should have been sent off as early as the first minute during their 2-2 draw with Liverpool, Complete Sports reports.
The highly entertaining fixture produced four world class goals in the first half as both sides took the game at each other in a bid to win all three points.
But just seconds into the game, Senegalese star Mane escaped red after an apparent elbow on Blues captain Cesar Azpiicueta.
The incident generated controversy on social media with many expressing frustration that the AFCON-bound star should have been sent off.
The elbow was clearly thrusted out and it was obvious violent conduct. VAR had a look and should have sent referee Anthony Taylor to the monitor, but it was only a yellow.
In his reaction, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel said via BBC Sport:
“In the first game we got the red card and the referee was so quick to give the red card.
“They did not check it, I hate to say it normally as I don’t like a red card early in the game, it can kill it. The public are here to see 11v11. Sadio Mane should always be on the pitch because he is a brilliant player and a good guy but it is a red card.
“If you don’t check and then can check our goal and maybe take it away… it is hard to swallow but what can we do?”
