Who invented American football?

Walter Camp is widely known as the founder of the North American game and one of the legendary American football players. He even acquired the name 'Father of American Football.' Walter was born in Connecticut. He went to grammar school in New Haven before joining Yale University.

He joined the university's rugby team but gradually transformed the rules into a different style of play, eventually leading to the development of Gridiron. Walter later spearheaded the creation of the Inter-collegiate Football Association (IFA) rules and players' positions.

Walter Camp's inventions

Camp introduced an 11-man team, the quarterback position, the line of scrimmage, offensive signal-calling, and the scoring scale. Besides, he also coached the Yale team to a 67-2 record from 1888 to 1892. Walter also worked as an executive at a watch-manufacturing firm.

How is American football played?
