The battle for the ultimate prizes in the 2024 Formula 1 season keeps on giving, with every race bringing new twists and unpredictability.

Since the introduction of significant upgrades at the Miami Grand Prix, McLaren Racing has undoubtedly been one of the best teams of the season so far.

The Woking team has continued to rack up points and podium finishes, and lead driver, Lando Norris, took things a nudge higher at the Spanish Grand Prix by clinching pole position ahead of favourite, Max Verstappen.

The Red Bull RB20's surprising inconsistency throughout the 2024 season has meant that the most dominant team of the ground-effect era has had to dig deep into their arsenal of tricks and strategies to stay on top of the podiums.

However, sometimes these efforts are not enough, as seen so far through the Spanish Grand Prix weekend. Verstappen could only qualify P2, while his teammate, Sergio Perez, with a three-place grid penalty, managed P8.

This unexpected result from Red Bull subtly opens the door to the potential for a new race winner on race day. In light of this, Sports Brief highlights the possible contenders for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix.

Spanish Grand Prix possible winners

Lando Norris

The McLaren driver is currently the odds-on favourite to clinch victory at the Barcelona race. The 25-year-old, who tasted his first career win at the Miami Grand Prix, has been nothing short of sensational throughout the race weekend. Norris heads into the race with the slight advantage of pole position and could well convert the pole to a race victory.

Lewis Hamilton

There couldn't be a better time for the 39-year-old to clinch victory, especially with the supposedly best team on the grid struggling for pace.

The Mercedes driver will fancy a win, and his impressive qualifying and the recent upgrades to the Mercedes W15 car offer him an additional advantage to claim victory at what is definitely one of his favourite race circuits.

George Russell

The British driver is another with a chance of clinching victory at the Spanish Grand Prix. Russell came tantalisingly close to claiming victory at the Canadian Grand Prix following a beautiful qualifying session. However, given the weather conditions, a win for the former Williams driver will not be on the night.'

Russell will, however, fancy his chances of claiming his first victory since the 2022 Brazilian Grand Prix at the Barcelona circuit on race Sunday.

Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix preview and predictions

Sports Brief in another report provided an extensive preview and predictions of the Formula 1 Spanish GP.

The race in Barcelona holds significant importance for the 2024 season as the mid-season break approaches.
