Following his 10th-place finish at the Chinese Grand Prix, Hulkenberg is now tied for the most race starts without a victory in the sport.

Sports Brief looks at the top five drivers with the most starts without a win.

Most F1 starts without victory

Andrea de Cesaris

The Italian driver made 208 starts in his F1 career, driving for teams like McLaren and Alfa Romeo.

During those 208 starts, he never won a single race but did finish second twice.

In the 1983 German Grand Prix, he finished 70 seconds behind the eventual winner.

Cesaris also holds the joint record for the most retirements, at 147, and was given the nickname “De Crasheris” because of his reputation for crashing often.

Nico Hulkenberg

The German driver has tied de Cesaris on 208 and is set to break the record in the next race in Miami.

Hulkenberg also holds the record for the most race starts without a podium finish, Sports Illustrated reported.

The Haas driver has also amassed over 500 points in his career, so his performance in the sport isn’t as bad as his records suggest.

Nick Heidfeld

With 183 starts, Heidfeld currently occupies the third spot.

The former Williams and BMW Sauber driver finished on the podium 13 times, including eight second-place results.

He came close to winning in 2007, finishing just four seconds behind Lewis Hamilton at the Canadian Grand Prix.

Heidfeld also held the record for most podium finishes without a win, but Lando Norris has surpassed him on the list.

Romain Grosjean

Like Heidfeld above him, Grosjean also was denied his first victory by Hamilton at a Canadian Grand Prix.

The Frenchman started 179 races without a win but finished 2.5 seconds behind the British driver in a 2012 race in Canada.

Grosjean left the sport at the end of 2020 but has been loving life since then.

As noted by GQ, Grosjean now races in IndyCar for Andretti Autosport and has also competed in a 24-hour endurance race at Daytona.

Kevin Magnussen

Grosjean’s former Haas partner rounds out the top five with 168 race starts without a win.

Big things were expected from the Danish driver, as he finished second in his very first race in the sport.

He hasn’t made it to the podium since, but he still competes for the Haas team, so he may change that this season.

That looks unlikely as Haas continues to struggle, with Magnussen himself stating that he wasn’t happy with the team’s progression, GP Blog reported.

Most victories from pole positions

Every F1 driver wants to win a race, and sometimes, the best chance to do that is by claiming pole position.

Hamilton is the number one driver with the most wins from pole position, but Max Verstappen is closing in on him.

Sports Brief looks at the list of drivers with the most race victories, starting from the number one position on the grid.
