Once the traditional season opener, this race was temporarily displaced by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, but it has consistently showcased thrilling performances by elite drivers.

Since its debut in 1996, a multitude of teams have celebrated success in what has evolved into a tumultuous event often punctuated by red flags.

However, amidst the apparent chaos that characterises the Australian Grand Prix, certain drivers have displayed remarkable consistency, frequently completing the race and securing coveted podium finishes.

Scuderia Ferrari stands out as the most successful constructor in the history of the event. Nonetheless, the title for the most podium finishes at Albert Park, belongs to Lewis Hamilton.

Drivers with the most podium finishes in Australia

Lewis Hamilton

The British driver stands atop the list of drivers with the most podium finishes at the Grand Prix. Since his debut race at the 2007 edition, the 39-year-old has amassed an impressive tally of 10 podium finishes at the event. Hamilton's most recent appearance in 2023 saw him secure second place, narrowly trailing behind Max Verstappen.

Sebastian Vettel

Following Hamilton closely on the list is the retired German driver, who boasts seven podium finishes. Vettel's initial taste of podium success in Australia came with Red Bull in 2011, and his final podium at the same track was achieved with Ferrari in 2018.

Michael Schumacher

The seven-time drivers’ champion also ranks high on the list of drivers with the most finishes in Melbourne, with six.

The retired German driver secured his first podium with the Italian team, Benetton, in 1992, and his final podium came with Ferrari in 2004, according to data courtesy of Stats F1.

Kimi Raikkonen

The cool and composed Finnish driver also boasts an impressive six podium finishes at the Albert Park circuit. The former F1 champion secured his first podium in Australia in 2002 with McLaren, and his last podium came in 2018 with the Italian team, Ferrari.

Fernando Alonso

Completing our list of drivers with the most podium finishes in Australia is the veteran Spanish driver. The wily Spaniard boasts an impressive six podiums at the Australian Grand Prix. Alonso's first podium finish was with the French team, Renault, in 2004, and his most recent podium at the Grand Prix was with Aston Martin, in 2023.

Whether the 42-year-old can add another podium to his collection this weekend remains to be seen.
