FootballMick Schumacher Returns to Racing After Underwhelming Stint at Formula 1 Team Haas
- Mick Schumacher recently lost his seat with a Formula 1 team
- His subpar showings with Haas Racing saw him lose that spot
- The 24-year-old has now returned to racing with a new team
After a lacklustre two-year stint with Haas Racing, Formula 1 driver Mick Schumacher is making a comeback following a year-long hiatus.
Despite his unceremonious end with the American team at the end of the 2022 season, Schumacher never hid his burning desire to return to Formula 1 and he opted to take up the role as Mercedes' reserve driver for the 2023 season.
Given the uncertainty surrounding Schumacher's chances of rejoining the F1 grid for the upcoming season, with most teams finalising their driver lineups for 2024, the 24-year-old chose to explore opportunities outside of Formula 1.
The son of seven-time F1 Champion, Michael Schumacher opted to join Alpine racing for the 2024 World Endurance Championship.
According to a reports by Planet F1, Schumacher's close friend and Alpine F1 driver, Esteban Ocon played a crucial role in securing him a seat by approaching the team's interim boss, Bruno Famin.
Subsequently, Schumacher had the opportunity to test drive Alpine's A424 Hypercar at the Jerez Circuit. This test led to him securing a race seat for the 2024 endurance season.
Schumacher speaks after sealing Alpine seat
Speaking to the media after confirming his place with the French constructor for the upcoming endurance racing season, Schumacher expressed his excitement. As reported by Motorsport.com, he stated:
"The car is impressive, and I can’t wait to get started. I grew up with single-seaters, so driving a car with a closed cockpit and covered wheels is a great opportunity to hone my driving skills.
"I sorely missed racing this year; it’s what I’ve loved to do since I was a kid, and it was sometimes difficult to watch the other drivers take to the track," the German admitted.

FootballAcknowledging that endurance racing presents a new challenge, Schumacher is optimistic about the shared experiences with Alpine in the upcoming season.
In addition to his commitments in the World Endurance Championship, Schumacher will continue his role as a reserve driver for Mercedes in 2024.
The Brackley squad confirmed his dual role on social media, stating:
"We’re excited to see Mick continue to contribute to our team alongside his new challenge in World Endurance next season."
