Since making his mark in Formula 1 with Toro Rosso in 2015, Max Verstappen has consistently rewritten the sport's history books.

The Red Bull driver first had everyone on high alert when he became the youngest F1 race winner at 18 during the 2016 Spanish Grand Prix.

Fast forward to 2023, and this unconventional rookie has taken the F1 world by storm, clinching his third consecutive drivers' championship and breaking numerous records along the way.

ESPN reported that the 26-year-old secured his third championship with a record-breaking win ratio in a single season, and in this context, Sports Brief delves into five remarkable records shattered by the Formula 1 champion during the enthralling 2023 season.

Most wins in a season

Verstappen set a new benchmark for the most wins by any driver in Formula 1 history with his triumph at the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas. The Dutch driver surpassed the previous record of 15 wins that he set in the 2022 season, as reported by Autosport.com.

Most consecutive Grand Prix wins

The 2023 season witnessed Verstappen establishing a new record for the most consecutive victories in an F1 season, securing 10 wins in a row. Racingnews365 reported that he surpassed Sebastian Vettel's previous record of nine consecutive wins, which was set in the 2013 season. Although Verstappen was on track to extend his winning streak, an issue with the team's upgrade at the Singapore Grand Prix cost him a record-extending 11th victory.

Most laps led in a season

Verstappen's dominance in the 2023 season saw him surpass Sebastian Vettel's record of the most laps led in a Formula 1 season. At the Qatar Grand Prix, he overtook Vettel's previous record of 739 laps, reaching a current record of 922. With two races remaining in the 2023 season, this number is expected to further extend.

Most podiums in a season

The three-time champion also set a new record for the most podium finishes in a season. Out of the 20 races held in 2023, Verstappen stood on the podium 19 times, including 17 victories and two runner-up positions. The Dutch driver is poised to extend this record to 21 podiums in the final two races in Las Vegas and Abu Dhabi.

Most wins from pole in a season

Verstappen holds the record for the most race victories from pole position, converting all 11 of his pole starts into victories. Despite having two more races to conclude the season, he has already surpassed Nigel Mansell and Vettel's previous record of nine wins from pole in 1992 and 2011, respectively.
