FootballLewis Hamilton Makes Red Bull Prediction After Mercedes Woes at Formula 1 Brazil GP
- Mercedes' struggles through the 2023 season were evident again in Brazil
- The Brackley-based team suffered another disappointing race at the Interlagos circuit
- Lewis Hamilton has made a bold prediction following his side's unending difficulties
Mercedes-Benz continued to grapple with challenges in 2023, and their disappointing performance during the Brazilian Grand Prix at Interlagos highlighted their ongoing struggles.
The Brackley-based team, which had been playing second fiddle to the dominant Red Bull RB19 car throughout the season, had briefly found some relief when they introduced a new floor ahead of the United States Grand Prix at COTA.
However, any respite they had gained seemed short-lived after a disastrous race weekend at Interlagos.
Arriving at a circuit where Mercedes had secured a 1-2 result the previous season, the German Constructor had hoped for an outside chance at claiming their first race win of the season.
Unfortunately, that hope was shattered as the "draggy" W14 car wore out its tires, causing both drivers to lose positions in both the Sprint and the Grand Prix races.
Hamilton on Mercedes' performance
Driver Lewis Hamilton did not mince words and openly expressed his dissatisfaction following the conclusion of the Grand Prix weekend.
Despite making a fantastic start and initially running as high as third place, Hamilton was overtaken by Fernando Alonso after a restart, and he found himself in a DRS train with rivals on his tail. As the 71 laps unfolded, he dropped to eighth place and was almost passed by Yuki Tsunoda in the AlphaTauri.
Hamilton vented his frustrations about the car's performance. He was quoted by Planet F1 to have said:
"... we're losing so much time on the straights, there's nothing I can do about it, and then we're just sliding through the corners. So we have to look into why that is the case on this rough circuit."
Arteta backs Arsenal keeper Raya after criticism
FootballHamilton struggled to contain his displeasure, and further made a prediction about Red Bull.
"I think ultimately, all I can do is try to remain optimistic," he said.
"The Red Bull, I think, is so far away. I think they're probably going to be very clear for the next couple of years."
While Hamilton's prediction about Red Bull's dominance may be viewed as premature, a report from Sky Sports F1 report suggests that the Milton-Keynes-based team is already focusing on their 2024 car, indicating the potential for another highly competitive and dominant vehicle from the Austrian Constructor.
