Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc narrowly edged out Red Bull’s Max Verstappen to claim pole position at the United States Grand Prix in COTA.

The 26-year-old driver delivered an exceptional performance, securing the top spot on the grid ahead of Mclaren’s Lando Norris and seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton.

Leclerc, who notched his 21st career pole position and third of the 2023 season as reported by ESPN F1, continued his impressive habit of clinching pole positions during Sprint Race weekends.

However, it was a different story for the reigning world champion, Verstappen, who had his final pole lap invalidated for exceeding track limits at turn 19. As a result, Verstappen could only manage a sixth-place start. His teammate, Sergio Perez, faced another disappointing qualifying session, settling for ninth place on the starting grid for Sunday's race.

Despite starting at the front, Leclerc will be aiming to convert his pole position into a race victory, a feat he hasn't accomplished throughout the 2023 F1 season. According to @F1, the final starting grid for the race will line up as follows:

1. Charles Leclerc

2. Lando Norris

3. Lewis Hamilton

4. Carlos Sainz

5. George Russell

6. Max Verstappen

7. Pierre Gasly

8. Esteban Ocon

9. Sergio Perez

10. Oscar Piastri

Notably, the US Grand Prix also marks the first race of the 2023 season where Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso failed to advance past Q1 in a qualifying session.

US GP Prix Schedule

As the race weekend progresses, the spotlight shifts to the Sprint race and Sprint shootout scheduled for Saturday. Here's the complete schedule for the rest of the weekend:

October 21st

Sprint Shootout at 12:30 (EST)

Perez opens up on mental struggle

In a previous report, Sports Brief stated that Red Bull's Sergio Perez has opened up on his mental struggle through the 2023 Formula 1 season.

The Mexican driver has struggled for form and opted to seek the help of a therapist to regain his early season form.

Perez's poor run of form has put his immediate future at the Milton-Keynes team in doubt.
