  • Red Bull racing remains linked to McLaren’s Lando Norris
  • The British driver has been tipped with potentially replacing Sergio Perez at the Austrian team
  • McLaren CEO has cleared the air on Norris joining Red Bull

Red Bull Racing continues to be associated with numerous drivers, especially as speculations about Sergio Perez’s immediate future gain momentum.

It was reported that the Austrian team was initially considering a reunion with Daniel Ricciardo as Max Verstappen’s teammate following McLaren’s decision to part ways with the Australian driver at the conclusion of the 2022 season.

However, when Red Bull chose to release rookie driver Nyck de Vries from their B-team, AlphaTauri, an opportunity opened up for Ricciardo, and he swiftly secured the position.

With Ricciardo now officially off the driver market, Red Bull has shifted its focus to Lando Norris, who has consistently impressed this season while racing for McLaren.

As the rumours linking Norris to Red Bull intensify, McLaren’s CEO, Zak Brown, has clarified the situation regarding the driver’s future with the British team.

It’s no secret that Helmut Marko and the Red Bull leadership are interested in the prospect of pairing Norris with Verstappen in the near future.

The Chief Advisor of the Austrian team has been clear about his support for bringing Norris on board. However, CEO Zak Brown appears to be displeased with the ongoing discussions about his driver’s future and has emphatically denied any potential agreement between Red Bull and Norris.

When asked if McLaren would entertain offers for Norris, Brown told Motorsport-Total.com, per reports from Planet F1:

“Correct. Lando will be racing at McLaren through 2025. For sure.”

As Sergio Perez continues to face challenges in keeping up with Verstappen, the rumours of a potential move for Norris gain more credibility, especially in light of Fox Sports’ reports suggesting a 2026 engine partnership between Red Bull and McLaren.

Perez casts doubt on Red Bull future

In another report, Sports Brief stated that Sergio Perez, who has been far from his finest form during the first 14 races of the 2023 Formula 1 season, has cast doubt over his chances of racing at Red Bull beyond 2024.

The driver highlighted that he would fancy a serene environment, and if he cannot find such a peaceful setting with the Austrian team, he would prefer walking away from the team.
