  • The Ferrari driver had just finished third in the Monza circuit before he lost his valuable watch
  • He began the day in pole position, but Max Verstappen reigned supreme to win yet another race

Carlos Sainz had an event-packed Sunday at the Italian Grand Prix. The Ferrari driver began in pole position at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza and led for 14 laps.

He was, however, overtaken by the dominant Max Verstappen, who recorded his 10th consecutive win in a single season. His teammate, Sergio Perez, finished second, while Sainz was forced to fend off his teammate, Charles Leclerc, for his first podium finish of the season.

But just as the Spanish driver retreated to celebrate his P3 ranking, he was robbed of his expensive Richard Mille watch. The driver was accosted near the Armani Hotel and he was still in his full Ferrari kit.

Sainz got his watch back

The Sun reports that Sainz, together with those around him, hunted down the thieves. He managed to recover the watch before the police arrested two suspects.

Watches World reports that the average price of such a watch is 200,000 dollars. Sainz's piece cost 500,00 euros, as reported by ESPN.

Luckily for the 29-year-old, Formula 1 will take a break this week before returning for back-to-back races in Singapore and Japan on September 17 and 24, respectively.

Verstappen is on course for a third consecutive title. Sainz is fifth in the driver's standings behind the Dutchman Perez, Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso and record champion Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes.

Verstappen hits out at Hamilton

Sports Brief has also reported that the animosity between Lewis Hamilton and Verstappen, which stems from the 2021 Formula season, keeps growing following the Mercedes driver’s recent comments on his Red Bull rival.

Hamilton had initially cast doubts over the achievements and records of the Dutch driver in an interview ahead of the Italian Grand Prix in Monza.

Verstappen has now responded to the claim of the seven-time champion in the cheekiest of manners.
