  • Red Bull Racing are on course for their 13th successive win of the 2023 season
  • Lewis Hamilton appears displeased with the dominance of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen
  • Hamilton recently spoke about the Dutch driver’s dominance of the sport

Max Verstappen continues to assert his dominance in the 2023 Formula 1 season after achieving a record-equalling win at the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort.

The two-time Formula 1 champion appears to be on track for an unprecedented 10th consecutive race win at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza, leaving many observers unimpressed by his unparalleled hold on the sport.

One individual who is notably dissatisfied with Verstappen's stranglehold on Formula 1 is Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton.

The seven-time world champion, Hamilton, has expressed scepticism regarding Verstappen's accomplishments, suggesting that the Dutch driver has yet to face an ideal teammate capable of challenging him with the same machinery.

Hamilton on Verstappen’s dominance

Ahead of Friday’s free practice session for Sunday’s Grand Prix, the Mercedes driver took time to speak to Sky Sports F1.

Quizzed about Max Verstappen, Hamilton said:

"I'm no more impressed than when Michael [Schumacher] was leading when Sebastian [Vettel] was leading, when Kimi [Raikkonen] was driving when Fernando [Alonso] was winning - same.
"I mean I think the team as a whole is one of the strongest - they're firing on all cylinders right now."

Verstappen has built a 138-point world championship lead ahead of his teammate Sergio Perez and Hamilton is definitely not pleased.

"In my opinion, all of my teammates have been stronger than the teammates that Max has had.
"Jenson [Button], Fernando, George [Russell], Valtteri [Bottas], and Nico [Rosberg].
"All of these guys have been very strong and consistent, and Max has not raced against anyone like that."

Hamilton’s strange comments come in light of the struggle faced by Verstappen’s teammate Perez.

Hamilton believes he has more to offer the world of F1, and recently put pen to paper on a two-year extension at the Silverstone team, according to reports from Planet F1.

It remains to be seen if Mercedes and the 38-year-old will have what it takes to challenge the dominance of Red Bull in 2024.

McLaren’s CEO discusses Verstappen’s dominance

In a previous article, Sports Brief reported on Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren, discussing Red Bull’s dominance of the sport.

The 55-year-old did not hold back his displeasure with the effectiveness of the Milton Keynes team but believes the other teams can still catch up.

Brown has seen his McLaren team rise through the ranks to become one of the teams to beat this season and wants to match the pace of the RB19.
