As reported by News24, Ricciardo broke his hand during free practice for the Dutch Grand Prix and had to be replaced by Liam Lawson.

AlphaTauri released a statement after the incident, detailing the extent of Ricciardo’s injury.

"An X-ray confirmed he sustained a break to a metacarpal on his left hand, and this injury will not allow him to continue his duties, so he will be replaced by the team's reserve driver Liam Lawson for the remainder of this weekend," the statement read.

Ricciardo then underwent surgery for the break and has since updated fans on his progress.

Formula 1 took to Twitter to share a message from the Australian after he successfully underwent an operation to fix the break.

He retained his trademark sense of humour as he joked about having a piece of metal in his hand. He added this was not a setback, but rather part of the comeback.
