  • Verstappen has opened up on his dream Formula 1 teammate

The Red Bull driver who is on course for a record nine consecutive race victory, looks poised to join the elite rank currently occupied by former Red Bull driver Sebastien Vettel.

Following his stunning lap pole lap in his home Grand Prix, the 26-year-old was quizzed about his heroes in motorsport. Verstappen, who grew up alongside Mick Schumacher and his seven-time champion father, Michael, did express his admiration for two-time champion Fernando Alonso, who has accompanied him on the podium on multiple occasions this season following his move to Aston Martin.

However, the question about his ideal F1 teammate has caught the attention of many.

Verstappen on his ideal teammate

The Formula champion, who has again dominated the F1 grid this season, provided a rather hilarious answer to the question of his ideal teammate.

Verstappen despite being teammates with Sergio Perez, told Sky Sports:

“For me personally, dream team, if I could choose and could bring people back to their normal racing age it would be my dad,
“For me personally that’s my dream team, his career didn’t go to plan and I think he had a lot of potential.

Verstappen further spoke on his Father’s potential as a driver:

“He knew what went wrong and he knew that it was very important to have the right people around you from a young age, to be guided in the right way and I think that’s what he did with me.
“So from all that happened in his career and what went wrong, he tried to prevent me from having [that too].
“That’s why he prepared me in a very professional way from a very young age to be ready for all certain kind of scenarios.”

Verstappen’s Father, Jos competed in Formula 1 during the 1990s and participated in a few seasons in the early 2000s. With 106 race starts in the pinnacle of motorsport, the now 51-year-old driver couldn’t secure a victory in any Grand Prix.

Notably, he was a teammate to Michael Schumacher during the German’s championship-winning 1994 season at the Benetton F1 team, according to reports from Firstsportz.

McLaren’s CEO discusses Verstappen’s dominance

In a previous article, Sports Brief reported on Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren, discussing Red Bull’s dominance of the sport by Max Verstappen.

The 55-year-old did not hold back his displeasure with the effectiveness of the Milton Keynes team but believes the other teams can still catch up.

Brown has seen his McLaren team rise through the ranks to become one of the teams to beat this season and wants to match the pace of the RB19.
