FootballFormula 1: Schumacher Named As Contender to Take Over Troubled Driver Seat
- Mick Schumacher has been without an F1 seat since his departure from Haas
- The German driver is currently a reserve racer for Mercedes AMG
- Schumacher has been linked with replacing the struggling Logan Sargeant
The 2023 Formula 1 season has so far seen fans witness the continuous struggle of one of F1's most iconic teams - Williams.
The British racing team, led by team principal, James Vowles, have amassed a lowly 11 championship points through the first 12 races of the season, with driver, Alex Albon, accounting for all of these.
Albon's Williams ally, Logan Sargeant, has come under scrutiny after failing to record a single point for the team.
The American driver's struggles in his debut F1 season have not been helped by the fact that he secured his place on the grid off the back of impressive stints in Formula 2.
The 22-year-old has continued to face criticism and his ability to step up a notch higher has been questioned, as was the case with Nyck de Vries, who was recently ejected by AlphaTauri.
Recent reports from Motorsportweek have stated that Williams have already identified a replacement for Sargeant going into the 2024 season.
Williams identifies Sargeant's replacement
With the F1 silly season upon us and teams confirming the seats of drivers ahead of next season, GPFans reports that Mick Schumacher could take Sargeant's seat.
The 24-year-old, who is currently a reserve driver at Mercedes AMG, had a slightly unimpressive two-year spell with American F1 team, Haas Racing, before he was released.
The German has not shied away from his desire to return to racing fully and it is believed the partnership and shared engine of Williams and Mercedes could help speed up this move.
