  • Formula 1 returned to the Hungaroring for round 12 of the 2023 season
  • Max Verstappen claimed what was his seventh consecutive victory
  • Lando Norris was also on the podium for the second week running

Red Bull Racing continued their dominance of the 2023 Formula 1 season after securing win number 12 of the season so far.

In what appeared to be a weekend filled with uncertainties, Mercedes Benz’s Lewis Hamilton secured pole position in qualifying – a first since Saudi Arabia 2021.

Max Verstappen, who was starting on P2, was out on the dirty side of the racing track, which many predicted would hamper his race.

Red Bull took comfort in the fact that Sergio Perez finally made it into part three of qualifying. They were also worried about the Mexican driver's starting position, P9.

Sunday's race was highly anticipated and was tipped to be one that would keep fans on the edge of their seats. It quickly became a reminiscence of what fans have witnessed all season – Verstappen taking the lead, Perez making incredible overtakes, Mercedes still searching for pace, and not forgetting Ferrari and their uncanny race strategies.

Max Verstappen sealed his seventh consecutive victory, equalling records set by Alberto Ascari, Nico Rosberg, and Michael Schumacher, according to reports from F1.com.

Sergio Perez drove his way to the podium in P3, but the Red Bull drivers were split by Lando Norris's McLaren, which has become one of the fastest cars on the grid since its upgrade in Austria.

Norris breaks Verstappen’s trophy

During the trophy presentation and celebrations at Parc Ferme, Norris accidentally broke the trophy presented to Verstappen whilst trying to pop his champagne in a rather unique way.

The Briton has developed a unique way of champagne celebrations, in which he taps the bottle on the top step of the podium to pop it open.

This time Norris knocked Verstappen's trophy onto the ground, shattering the unique award.

The trophies are handmade by Herendi Porcelanmanufaktura Zrt with an approximate production time of six months at a cost of €40,000.

Verstappen reacted to Norris shattering his award:

"You said it was my fault? I give you a red card," said Verstappen in a conversation picked up during Sky Sports F1's special kids broadcast.
"I will go to Zak because he has got some spare money for the personnel in the team, so he can spend it on a trophy."

McLaren has since sent an apology to Red Bull over social media.

Hamilton advised against joining Ferrari

In a previous report, Sports Brief stated that British Formula 1 driver, Lewis Hamilton has been warned against making a possible switch to Italian Formula 1 constructor Ferrari.

According to Formula 1 analyst, Peter Windsor, a move to the Maranello would plunge the driver’s career into chaos.

Hamilton’s future at Mercedes has been up in the air with rumours that the driver is unhappy, as reported by Sports Illustrated.

With just five months left to go on his existing deal, many teams on the grid have been linked with the seven-time champion.
