Lewis Hamilton brought the Mercedes garage to rapturous applause after securing pole position at the Hungarian Grand Prix qualifiers.
Hamilton pipped Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and McLaren’s Lando Norris to seal his first pole position since Saudi Arabia in 2021.
As reported by F1.com, the seven-time world champion ended his 33-race barren run by claiming a record-increasing 104th pole of his career and his record ninth at the Hungaroring circuit – the most in the history of Formula 1.
Hamilton on securing pole position
The Mercedes driver speaking to Sky Sports after securing pole could not hide his excitement.
Hamilton said:
"I didn’t expect this, for us to be fighting for pole position here this weekend,"
"But hats off to the team. They’ve done a fantastic job"
Hamilton who was visibly emotional, had described his car as being "at its worst" on Friday.

In a thrilling conclusion to their contest, the Brit narrowly edged out Max Verstappen by a mere 0.003 seconds.
Hamilton's teammate George Russell, who was on pole last year, failed to make it out of the first qualifying session, blaming heavy traffic for his elimination.
The Hungarian Grand Prix qualifying featured the introduction of F1's new Alternative Tyre Allocation system.
This introduction saw teams run the first qualifying session using only hard compound, Q2 was done with only mediums and softs for the final top 10 shoot-out.
