  • It was an all-around impressive performance from the Caribbean team coached by Daren Sammy

Roston Chase struck an incredible 38-ball 67 as West Indies defeated South Africa by 16 runs at Sabina Park Cricket Stadium to take a huge 2-0 lead in the three-match T20I series.

Chase was outstanding during the encounter, delivering a strong performance for the home team's 207-7; and while Proteas made a fast start, they were unable to get close to the target.

The T20 World Cup starts in the United States on June 1 and co-host West Indies will take on South Africa again on Sunday to conclude the series.

An all-around impressive performance from the Caribbean team coached by Daren Sammy, who was the captain when West Indies won the T20 World Cup title in 2016.

SuperSport reports that team skipper Brandon King won the toss but decided to bat, making a determined start, scoring 36 off 22 balls.

An aggressive Kyle Mayers then struck 32 off 16 balls, including three sixes, before he went in the ninth over with the home side on 83-3.

The 21-year-old leg spinner Nqabayomzi Peter dismissed both Mayers and King to impress in his debut for South Africa.

However, the damage had been done after Chase and Romario partnered to complete the 63-run.

Chase hit seven fours and two sixes as he played some elegant strokes, but his effort was thwarted in the final over when Lungi Ngidi picked up two wickets.

In the end, Van der Dussen admitted that his side allowed West Indies to set a high target.

When Zimbabwe's female cricketers defeated South Africa

Sports Brief earlier reported that the sweet taste of gold was amplified for Zimbabwe's female cricketers.

The victorious Lady Chevrons were handed a US$80,000 bonus by Zimbabwe's cricket administrators for winning the inaugural women's tournament at the 13th African Games.

Zimbabwe earned the gold medal by beating South Africa in a dramatic super over at the Achimota Senior Secondary School in Accra.
