CricketSouth African Supporters Heap Praise on Proteas After Team Defeats World Test Champions New Zealand
- South African cricket supporters started off their Tuesday mornings with an added bounce in their steps
- Whether they were headed to work or school or taking a jog, the Proteas put a smile on their face after hammering New Zealand in the early hours of the day
- Many went to social media to give praise to Dean Elgar's team as they drew the Test series with the world champions
Required to overhaul a mammoth 426 for victory, the Black Caps were never really in with a chance on the start of the final day's play. Resuming on 94 for the loss of four wickets, they were rifled out for 227, missing out on the opportunity to defeat the visitors for the first time ever in a Test series since the nations first met in 1931.

"Another incredible fightback from the Proteas to level the series and deny the ICC Test Champions their first-ever series win over South Africa. That’s two Test series in a row now that the Proteas have come back from 0-1 down to either win or draw. Never say die."

"Now that is a serious comeback! Well done to everyone involved in the #Proteas setup. Time for the media to write a few positive articles now."

"Game over...SA win by 198 runs. Maharaj gets the last one. Quite the turnaround in Christchurch. Very good by the Proteas; hundreds for Erwee and Verreynne, superb bowling (and batting) by Rabada. NZ still waiting for that first Test series win against SA."

"What a great comeback victory by the Proteas which makes it unbeaten now in 3 consecutive test series. And missing Ngidi, Petersen and Nortje. Got to think what would have happened with a proper warm up and decent planning by CSA."

FootballAs reported on Sports Brief, the Proteas rose from the dead to inflict a heavy 198-run defeat on the world Test champions New Zealand, this after being thumped in the first Test by an innings and more just a week ago.
It was the second Test series in a row that the Proteas had come back from losing the first match to either win a series (vs India in January) or draw one, like against the Black Caps.
