CricketCSA T20 Challenge Wrap: GBET Dolphins Embarrass Six Gun Western Province to Soar Into Semifinals
- A half-century from Khaya Zondo and a clinical bowling performance saw the Hollywoodbets Dolphins storm into the CSA T20 Challenge semifinals
- The Dolphins stunned all and sundry with a convincing 65-run victory against Six Gun Grill Western Province in their final round-robin match of the tourney
- The mercurial Khaya Zondo’s unbeaten 59 helped the Dolphins recover from a dodgy 13-3 to reach an awkward 148-5
WP collapsed to a dismal 83 all out in reply with Dolphins captain Prenelan Subrayen leading the way with 2-17 from his four overs.
Richard Levi (15) and Daniel Smith (17) added 23 for the first wicket and Aviwe Mgijima made 18 but wickets tumbled regularly with left-arm spinner Bryce Parsons claiming the final wicket to finish with 3-22. Andile Phehlukwayo claimed 2-16 and fellow seamer Ottniel Baartman 2-16.
Zondo added 45 for the fourth wicket with Ruan de Swardt (22) and 47 with Bryce Parsons (28) to rebuild the innings after a double strike by George Linde and a wicket for Mgijima inside the first three overs.
Keegan Petersen was bowled by an arm ball from Linde (2-24) for a golden duck while Marques Ackerman (5) edged the same bowler to ‘keeper Dave Vilas. Grant Roelofsen (8) drove medium pacer Mgijima to Daniel Smith on the long off boundary.
Mgijima (2-25) picked up a second wicket when de Swardt top edged a pull into the gloves of Vilas while Parsons holed out to Linde at long on against offspinner Junaid Dawood who finished with the fine analysis of 4-0-15-1.
Phehlukwayo blasted an unbeaten 25 from just 10 balls (2x4, 2x6) to give the innings a timely boost in the closing overs while Zondo improvised superbly in the final over bowled by Beuran Hendricks to register his 11th T20 half century and finish unbeaten on 59 from 51 balls with four boundaries.
Western Province finish second and will play the Gbets Rocks in the semifinal while top-of-the-log Titans will play the Dolphins. It means the final group match between the Warriors and the North West Dragons is now of academic interest only.
