  • South Africa put on a dismal batting performance against New Zealand on the opening day of their test match
  • South Africa was bowled out for 95 thanks to Matt Henry, who took 7 wickets for only 23 runs for New Zealand
  • Fans were very critical on social media as they were left disappointed by the Proteas' dismal batting display

South African fans were left heavily disappointed when they watched the Proteas slump to 95 all out on day one of the first test match against New Zealand.

The Proteas are currently in New Zealand, where they will play two test matches.

Coming into the game on the back of an impressive series win against India, fans had high hopes for the South African team. But those hopes were crushed by a brilliant bowling display from Matt Henry. Henry took 7/23, CricInfo reported, as he terrorised the batting lineup.

Zubayr Hamza returned to the South African test squad and top-scored with 25.

At the close of play on day one, New Zealand had already surpassed South Africa’s score, finishing on 116/3, Sport24 reported.

South African fans though couldn’t believe what they’d witnessed and took to Twitter to share their frustration.

@Ruan_K1:

"Another masterclass from our batsmen. 95 ALL OUT. Absolute beauts. Same suspects as usual."

@DevarPillay_NZ·:

"Bowled out for under 100. Terrible batting performance from the #Proteas on a very good batting wicket."

@Ab_Amla:

"I watched the first hour, I can't believe we were rolled over like this and from all the NZ bowlers, we were terrorised by Matt Henry."

@ByronJacob9:

"Conditions? Either ya'll just don't care or you can't bat."

@serotonin345:

"This is their original quality... India played horribly against them."
