Al-Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane and Proteas captain Temba Bavuma showed solidarity as leading South African sports figures in a feel-good gesture.
Bavuma was the recipient of a signed custom Al-Ahly match jersey courtesy of the team's mentor, with the famed number 10 on the back. The diminutive batsman then went on social media to thank the coach.
Bavuma, a Kaizer Chiefs fan, could not miss the opportunity to take a dig at rivals Mamelodi Sundowns where Mosimane used to coach, saying in a tweet:
“Thank you Bra Pitso for the gift. I’m so relieved as a Chiefs fan [and] it’s not a Sundowns shirt. PS: All the best for the FIFA Club World Cup 2022!”
Mosimane won a second consecutive African Champions League with the Egyptian club last year (ironically beating Chiefs in the final), gaining qualification to the FIFA Club World Cup, as reported on SkySports. He also added to his legend in February last year when Al-Ahly finished third in the same competition, it's best ever finish in the tournament as per BBC Sport.
Bavuma has been the toast of town in the cricketing world of late. He captained South Africa to an unexpected but mightily impressive 3-0 whitewash of world number one India in a One Day International series, News24 reported.
