FootballAfrican Games: Janet Acquah Wins Ghana's First Boxing Medal
- Janet Acquah has won Ghana’s first boxing medal
- The female boxer won bronze after losing her bout
- She was defeated by Algeria's Mansouri Fatiha
Ghanaian female boxer Janet Acquah has clinched the bronze medal in the women's minimum weight (48kg) category at the ongoing African Games.
Despite a majority decision (4-1) loss to Algeria's Mansouri Fatiha, Acquah managed to secure the bronze medal.
This achievement comes as little surprise given Acquah's notable progress over the past year, per Myjoylonline.
In September 2023, Acquah represented Ghana as part of the Black Hitters team at the Olympic Qualifier in Dakar.

Although she reached the quarter-final stage of the tournament, she fell short of securing qualification for the Paris tournament.
Undeterred, Acquah was selected once again for the Olympics Qualifier in Bursto-Arsizio, Italy, in February of this year. Despite her efforts, she was defeated by Tapei's Guo-Yi-Xuan in the women's Flyweight division.
Participation in successive international competitions has undoubtedly contributed to Acquah's development and refinement of her ring craft.
Aryeetey, Commey reach final
Meanwhile, two additional boxers, Mohammed Aryeetey and Joseph Commey, have secured spots in the finals for their respective weight divisions.
Aryeetey clinched his place first on Wednesday by triumphing over Morocco's Hamza Essaidi in the semi-final contest. The judges unanimously favored Aryeetey with a 5-0 decision in the men's 48kg bout at the Boxing Arena in the Trust Sports Emporium, Bukom.
Shortly after, Joseph Commey also advanced to the finals by defeating Algerian Oussama Mordjane. Commey secured his spot with a majority decision of 4-1 in the men's 60kg event.
