- The Youtuber claims Rooney contacted him in 2022 about a fight
Internet personality KSI recently exposed a text he received from Wayne Rooney that showed the Manchester United legend asking for a fight.
On February 15, Rooney admitted to being in talks with Misfits Boxing, a promotion launched by YouTuber-turned-boxer KSI in 2022.
Asked on The Overlap Podcast whether he would dip his hands in the boxing ring, Rooney, 38, appeared to have a change of heart, saying he wanted to shift his focus to football management.
“You never know,” before quickly adding: No, they’ve been in touch and asked the question, but I think at the minute I want to focus on getting back into management – not boxing.”

KSI reveals Rooney’s texts
Days later, KSI, whose real name is Olajide Olayinka Williams "JJ" Olatunji, also talked about boxing Rooney as he revealed his very first conversation with the former Everton man.
In an appearance on UK podcast Side+, KSI was asked whether Rooney has texted him in the past.
As it turns out, KSI still had Rooney’s 4am text from back in December 5, 2022, and he read it out loud during the episode to the amusement of the show’s hosts.
“I’ve got it (The text),” KSI says before proceeding to read the text, “It was 5th December 2022 at 3:50am. He (Rooney) said ‘Hey mate, what do you think on me and you having a boxing fight? I think we can generate a lot of money. You up for it? We could sell out a stadium with the right support and make good money’”.

FootballRooney has some ties to boxing which dates back to 2007, when he walked out with Ricky Hatton for his fight with Jose Luis Castillo.
The 38-year-old has also been spotted in the crowd in high-profile fights, including one involving Anthony Crolla in his title defence against Jorge Linares in 2016, per TalkSport.
Rooney willing to start from the bottom
Still on Wayne Rooney, Sports Brief reported on how the retired striker recently opened up on the sacrifices he was willing to make to return to management.
Having been sacked by Birmingham in January, Rooney is determined to bounce back, even if it means starting out with a League Two team.
