  • Tyson was crowned as the heavyweight king twice, with both of those wins coming by stoppage
  • Tyson has won 50 fights in his career and will go down as one of the greatest boxers in history

Heavyweight legend, Mike Tyson, stands as one of the most formidable punchers in the annals of boxing, and he recently disclosed his all-time favorite knockout.

Tyson bid farewell to his boxing career in 2005, following a loss to Kevin McBride, ending with an impressive record of 50 wins and 6 losses, of which a staggering 44 were achieved by way of knockout.

As noted by Boxing Social, the American boxer earned the heavyweight crown twice in his illustrious career, both times through knockout victories.

In 1986, Tyson decisively defeated Trevor Berbick in the second round to claim his first victory, and nearly a decade later, he secured his second triumph with a third-round knockout of Frank Bruno.

While reigning as the top figure in the division, 'Iron' Mike achieved brutal finishes against notable opponents such as Michael Spinks, Marvis Frazier, and Lorenzo Boyd.

However, none of these career highlights held the same significance as his most cherished stoppage win, as he revealed to Complex via Marca.

This most treasured moment was his fourth-round domination of former lineal heavyweight champion, Larry Holmes, in 1988. It carried a deeper and more profound meaning than a mere display of a perfect punch.

“My favourite knockout is Larry Holmes. Listen, when I was a young kid he fought Muhammad Ali, in 1980, and he kicked Ali’s real bad. I was like fourteen and I was saying that I will avenge Ali. It was more about that than the knockout itself, but it was a good one, he had never been knocked out before.”

Mike Tyson names his greatest rival

Meanwhile, Tyson will go down as one of the all-time boxing greats, but he has also fought some equally great opponents who challenged him.

A veteran of over 50 fights, Iron Mike recently revealed who the greatest fighter he shared the ring with was.

As noted by Boxing Social, Tyson named Evander Holyfield as his most formidable foe.

Holyfield names fighter more dangerous than Tyson

As Sports Brief also reported, Holyfield spoke on a more menacing fighter he had met than Mike Tyson.

Holyfield engaged in two notable bouts with Tyson in the 1990s, with the latter losing on both occasions.

While Holyfield recognises Tyson’s danger, he has now spoken about a fighter who poses more of a threat.
